Let us love one another as God loves each one of us. And where does this love begin? By praying together. (Mother Teresa)

It’s good to have a lifestyle of prayer but it’s even much better to create a family culture of praying together. Praying together as a family helps to bring families close to each other. According to Wesley L. Duewel, “United prayer is probably the most powerful expression of Christian unity, and to agree in prayer is the most specific and powerful form of united prayer. It is the crowning activity in group prayer. It does not replace private prayer but builds upon it. United prayer does not necessarily lead to it, but it is always possible.”

Praying families value every family member’s prayer and everyone prays. God does indeed hear the prayers of little children. We need to allow our young children to make their own prayers and never take these prayers for granted, they teach children to trust and rely on God at a young age. Praying with grown children is also equally important. As we pray together in agreement God works mightily upon us and releases His blessing.

Husbands and wives need to learn to pray together. Praying together helps draw couples to each other; it is the spiritual glue in marriage. Prayer with our spouse strengthens our spiritual bond while our vulnerability with each other deepens our own relationship. It sustains us when our marriages go through difficult times. It is crucial when we need God’s leadership and guidance.

Agreement is important when praying as a family or couple. Pray together in agreement and see God move in mighty ways in your family.

Again, I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them. (Matthew 18:19-20 ESV)

While it is ideal that you pray together as husband and wife, continue praying for your family and marriage even when you are the only one praying. Remember prayer has the power to change your marriage and family.
